arcade

more diy

Here is another DIY arcade mod: Project C-macc. This bloke is basically building a MAME cabinet which also houses consoles and emulates all older consoles and computers. Nice, but i don't like the style of the cabinet.

P.S. Got MAME running on Ubuntu last night But is was so incredibly slow it wasn't funny (1 frame per 10 seconds lol). More problem solving in the wings then....

monitors

Here are examples of arcade monitors that i have found which i am thinking of using for my Cab.

The one i would more likely to go for is this 20 inch crt for $435 which can display in CGA, EGA and VGA modes. There is a cheaper CGA only version but it's probably worth paying a little more to get the more flexible option.

redesign

You may recall my previous design:

Well after seeing the Zombie Arcade i decided i preferred that style of cabinet, so have gone back to the design stage. Here is my new design - took a decent amount of work to put this together.

The MDF arrived over the weekend, unfortunately the old man ordered the white laminated MDF rather than the raw MDF that i wanted. So i either have to get the raw stuff or go with what i have, which i'm not sure can be veneered. I could paint it so that it more closely reflects an actual arcade cabinet, and maybe paint some nice artwork. However, i do prefer the wood veneer finish as it would fit in with the furniture much more.

Will have to see if i can laminate on the white stuff.

keyboard

I'm still working out what i'm going to do about the keyboard. I will either build a drawer or maybe even try something different. My design doesn't include all those other bits and pieces at the moment (e.g. doors, possible coin slots, vents etc). If i go with mame and a cpu then i will install a keyboard.

I've been working out how mine will be all connected together over the last few days. Basically mine will be screwed together.

The following site shows someone's project of building a cabinet and has some useful information and photos on how to do it - worth a look.
